I don't recall seeing what API you were using for FTP. I'm guessing either Apache Commons IO or Apache Commons VFS. You might check on those mailing lists to see if they have more specific suggestions about how to fix this problem. As I recall though, there were some recent fixes to Commons IO to deal specifically with FTP-related problems.
