I've recognised for a while that it would be very useful to allow the user to place several classes of one stereotype followed by placing several more of a different stereotype.
At the moment you have to place several classes and then visit each one to change it. I was thinking of some stereotype selector in the diagram toolbar and have that stereotype applied to whatever model element is then created and placed with the diagram tools (I'm pretty sure I created an issue somewhere). I like your idea too though. Some way that a user can configure to create a new button themselves for a model element type and add some extra level of configuration rather than have to code a whole plugin for something simple.
