Certainly being able to reverse engineer and generate code for other specific types of application would be a good selling point and raise our profile with more cutting edge developers.
That has the problem of having the correct in-depth knowledge of that system and of the ArgoUML code base. We have the same problem we've already discussed - how do we get new people with the skills we want and keep them here? I wonder if another thing that could open up ArgoUML for more uses might be to look outside of UML. How about BPMN or any other defined graphical language. If we can get our model interface to be a lot more generic (I talked about a repository interface here http://argouml.tigris.org/wiki/Repository_Comparison_With_Model_Interface) and we have property panels driven by XML and diagram elements driven by XML then we have abstracted much of UML out of the core system. We have that catch-22 though. We are only a small team and what I suggest will take time and slow further our crawl to UML2. If we can't do that then nobody will take us seriously for anything else. There are other things we could do but I think anyone who is willing to work on ArgoUML should be encouraged to help the push to UML2.
