Deleting the files on trunk was just the best thing I know. Making them
readonly would be much better. Does anyone know how to do this?

The reason why I imported just the history starting with 2.0.0 is that this
was when we switched to release by submodule. This matches git tags much
better.
On the other hand it might very well work to also import the older
versions. So if people prefer this I can redo the import.
