I’ve written a UI bundle https://github.com/djencks/aries-antora-ui, applied it
to the site, and updated the preview.

Points to consider:

- “Apache Aries” in the logo is low-res and hard to read, but perhaps a more
appropriate font than the text next to it. In any case surely only one “Apache
Aries” is needed.

- I put a list of projects in a drop down in the header. This seems somewhat
useful but unfortunately mixes content into the UI. I’ll think about whether
there’s a way to generate this more automatically. If not I’d suggest taking
it out, it’s too likely to become unmaintained.

- I have the impression that the site hasn’t been updated in years and there
are several new projects not represented in it. Is this true? Is tx-control
not part of an OSGi spec yet? etc etc. Is anyone willing to update the content
to match reality? I see for instance that aries-cdi has a couple of doc pages.
GitHub supports asciidoc readme, but I don’t know if they support includes.
If they do, stuff like this can pretty easily be incorporated into the docs by
putting it in an Antora structure in it’s current project; the readme can
include the antora-located doc.

- I can add Lunr search pretty easily but it means moving to more non-standard
stuff. Some kind of custom Antora site generator pipeline is needed. There
are two choices: a custom pipeline that only deals with lunr search, or a
generic pipeline modification that introduces an event driven extension
mechanism plus an event driven extension for lunr. (I wrote the 2nd one. The
idea of a event driven extension mechanism is supposed to get into the next
major version of Antora, but despite it being scheduled for the beginning of
2020 I’d be surprised if it was even started before 2021.) If there’s interest
I can show what the result would look like.

——

The downloads tables seem to be in worse shape than I thought. I might find
time to work on them a bit more.
