hi Paul -- I would suggest operating an unofficial channel for
real-time discussions that don't necessarily concern the project
roadmap and governance of the Arrow project.

The basic problems with Slack are, to summarize our mailing list thread:

* Semi-private
* Not indexed in search engines
* Not managed by the ASF or archived in a public place
* Not frequented by many Arrow developers
