As we have discussed [1] we are going to start releasing versions of arrow-rs every 2 weeks from master. The first such release is scheduled for next Monday January 24, 2022.
Since there are several "semver breaking changes" on master, this implies the next release will be *8.0.0*, the first that is not aligned with the mono repo's releases. I plan to create a release candidate on Friday morning (US Eastern Time). If you have any changes you would like to get into this release, please try and get them up for review tomorrow (otherwise they will be included in the following release, in 2 weeks time).
