JDK version

I'm getting a few "glitches" rebuilding - it turns out they are the same 
issues the Jenkins build hit... so I'll track that issue.

However it seemed prudent to ask what compiler/JDK version most people 
are currently using on the project?

oracle java 7? (update 80)

I presume no 8, 9 yet? openjdk?
