Jeffrey Hagelberg commented on ATLAS-610:
-----------------------------------------

The primary motivation for this is to avoid breaking compatibility with users
that currently rely on the Titan 0.5.4/Tinkerpop 2 ecosystem. The idea is to
allow users to upgrade to the new version of Titan/Tinkerpop as they are able
to. It also allows users to upgrade Atlas to pick up some of the other new
features without requiring them to migrate to a new version of Titan/Tinkerpop.
We will definitely want to remove support for Titan 0.5.4/Tinkerpop 2 at some
point, though. Maintaining support for multiple versions of Titan/Tinkerpop is
definitely not the long term goal.

> We need to be able to run Atlas on top of Titan 1.0.0-incubating. This needs
> to be done in a way that allows Atlas to continue to support running with
> Titan 0.5.4. This is being implemented by adding an abstraction layer
> between Atlas and Titan.
