Summary: Use .gitignore so git does not see binary files as changed

I notice some projects have .gitignore files in their bin folders. but there
are many projects that do not. I suggest that we add more .gitignore files into
the projects that do not have them to reduce the possibility of binary files
and other files not required in the source control repository being
inadvertently included in a commit.
