The trick of course is that the ant "jar" target, which is what gump calls/should call, doesn't include doc generation, and so such a doc dependency should not be declared for those targets.
For testing of distribution targets 'n stuff, some projects have $blah-dist or dist-$blah, but these are not as vital as the jar-related gump descriptors.
the avalon-excalibur target is such a "dist" target but it is not called that way atm....not actually for compilation of anything; it is merely a convenience target which builds docs and puts the excalibur jars on a big pile. Doesn't work too well; we almost always have a few prereq failures.
So nope, no real dependency problem there, but it's not too clear from the setup.
