Also just noticed that excalibur-thread-1.1.1.jar is not on ibiblio.org/maven, so building merlin-plugin requires manually building and adding that dependency.
you can set an additional maven repository root to
http://www.apache.org/dist/avalon/
(or preferably one of the mirrors) which supports autodownload by maven of all avalon-produced artifacts.
