Once again, this is pretty much just the first page. The idea is to get
feedback on the maven look of things (only subtle differences, but still
different) and one some more reorganization of the left menu.
I suggest using a site.jsl - take a look at the framework, meta, merlin, i18n and configuration builds. They use a modified site.jsl that puts control back into our hands.
The Products menu now expands and collapses, but I'm still not dead set on the grouping. Feedback on this part would be nice.
I would collapse the "Project". "Product" and "Documetation" items under a single "About Avalon" menu - this allows you to present overview info on the submenu which means that you eliminate the need for an "Overview" item. This simplifies the menu and provides the information about structure. It also means that the menuitem can be collapsed - which in turn focussed the user to a smaller number of subjects when initially hitting the site.
On the breakdown - I have the impression that your focussing on trying to present content using two level only. You can avoid this limitation by using nested navigation.xml files.
If we follow the product breakdown sub-levels of "Avalon", "Excalibur", "Cornerstone" then I think things become a lot more understandable. Having links like "Platform" and "Containers" as children of the Products group is confussing because they are not the same "brand" breakout as "Excalibur" and "Cornerstone". Also, The bundling of Excalibur and Cornerstone under Components is IMHO the wrong message - Excalibur stuff is not component stuff. Also, If we use Components then we should drop Cornerstone (or drop Components and use Cornerstone). Whatever - at the end of the day I think we narrow down to three product brands:
* Avalon <------- framework and containment * Excalibur <---- utilities * Cornerstone <-- components
Let me know if there is anything I can help with. If you want to throw any of this into sandbox I could put in place the site.jsl and some examples of product breakdown.
