If you're thinking of Swing based tools, I strongly recommend you use the GuiApp framework ;-) If you're not aware of GuiApp, it's an Avalon based framework for building Swing apps. It would be nice to see it used to build tools for Avalon and it would also provide us with use cases to help build up new functionality.
