you mean init.d runlevel script?
merlin has already a start/stop script that could be called from a trivial 
script (if you need one of there I can provide it, but I guess it will be 
hard to setup an universal script)

you mean tomcat/jerry running as a merlin service OR merlin running as a 
tomcat/jetty war? ;)

Eclipse seems to have a nice plugin orianted approach with tons of example 
everywhere.
