No project.xml?
Sounds to me like you may not be looking at the right thing. To build from cvs
you need to checkout and build the following:
avalon/meta avalon/merlin
To build meta:
$ cd avalon/meta $ maven avalon:dist
To build merlin
$ cd avalon/merlin $ maven merlin:install
