Jim, If you're looking for a web server/servlet container that can embedded into merlin, then the avalon-merlin block has just been offered up as candidate for the sandbox. It is a solid block implementation of the Jetty web server and servlet container (http://www.mortbay.org), and provides a hook to allow any servlets/webapps access to the Avalon ServiceManager for component lookup. There should be an announcement here and on the avalon users list soon about its availability. If you are absolutely set on using Tomcat, then this block will not be of much interest to you.
