Have just added a syslog plugin to the logkit plugin for the avalon logging system (yes, that's a plugin inside a plugin). The logkit syslog plugin is based on code posted by Steve Short over on the James users list earlier today. Testcase are setup to validate plugin loading and Steve has confirmed proper plugin execution.
Preliminary documentation has been comitted and should be available on line in a couple of hours (example configs plus code source for setup and deployment).
