None to cleaning up excalibur and simplifying the build. I have a few concerns about "burying" excalibur, mostly with respect to supporting existing users (myself included) and exactly where and how it would be retired as you suggest. So, my personal thoughts are: go ahead with cleaning excalibur up (we all thank you!) but before we retire it we need to make sure all the loose ends are tied up. I'm sure you've considered this.
