I think the Merlin How To docs should be simplified a little bit. At first glance, it looks like a mountain of things I "have" to do. Of course, I know that it really isn't--it just seems that way.

Yeah... it really isn't, but I suppose it does look that way.

The best thing is to move any Maven project settings to a sidebar type of thing. The important thing is how to use Merlin, not how to set up the Maven project.

Totally agree. I think the Maven setup stuff is there so that you are ready to build and run the Merlin tutorials. Maven is not required to run Merlin, but Maven's presence on the Merlin setup page might make it seem that way. We could probably move the Maven setup instructions as a preface (or sidebar) to the Merlin-Hello tutorial.

Also, while Merlin configuration parameters are discussed in various pages throughout the Merlin site, I'd like to see some summary discussion of what configuration parameters of Merlin you need to do right there in the Merlin setup page. Explicit instructions for things like:

+ logging configuration how-to
+ getting the repository stuff working behind a firewall how-to
+ possibly others...

Also: an idea for a plug in (Eclipse, IntelliJ, etc.):

A plug in to generate the meta info in the class output directory so that
we can build and test all within an IDE. This provides a more realistic development environment for the user.

I think there has been substantial development around this already by Andreas, Berin. Package called MerlinDeveloper. It's an Eclipse plug-in. Andreas can chime in and give his advertisement. Not sure how close it is to being ready for prime time.

Timothy
