Why not just create a new class? Leave the existing one in place but
deprecate it and setup a new component that has the wiz-bang stuff.
Well it is small implementation detail. None of James. FtpServer or AltRMI use it directly.
I think it is much neater to allow the small change, and avoid overt cloning or deprecation of implementation.
