Doug: we're already breaking the API with AVRO-544, so I thought now might be a
fortuitous time to get in another backwards-incompatible change. Given the
pre-1.4.0 state of RPC support in Avro, it's unlikely that we're going to break
production installations. I defer to your judgment on this matter, as I see the
merits in your argument as well.
