Since Avro depends on Java 8, it's very unlikely that it would work in Hadoop
2.x in any case. We should drop Hadoop 2 support (and the double testing that
we do) in the next major version.
Note that the solution proposed in PR#1431 should be used, instead of PR#1618
when this is explicitly the case.
