Hey Hiranmaye, welcome to Beam, I appreciate your enthusiasm for the
project! If you're interested in getting involved in the project generally,
I'd recommend starting by reading through the Beam contribution guide
<https://beam.apache.org/contribute/>, and taking a look to see if there
are any good first issues
<https://github.com/apache/beam/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+label%3A%22good+first+issue%22>
that you're interested in helping with. Generally, that is the best way to
learn the code base and ramp up on contributing to the project (feel free
to tag folks in the issue or email this list if you need help getting
started).

If you're specifically interested in Google Summer of Code, it is still a
little bit early; folks are still coming up with projects to propose, but
once they do and applications open I'd recommend looking through the
projects and seeing if any in particular interest you. Beam usually has a
few projects (though that also is dependent on the community and may vary
year to year). If a Beam project is interesting to you, I'd recommend
putting together your proposal and sharing it here to get feedback before
submitting.

Regardless of how you proceed, welcome!

Thanks,
Danny
