Hi Beam community, My name is Yousuf Ansari, and I'm a student interested in contributing to Apache Beam as part of GSoC 2026. I came across the "Apache Beam Python SDK Native Streaming Transforms" idea on the ASF GSoC 2026 ideas list and it immediately caught my attention.
A bit about my background: I've been actively contributing to Apache Superset, a large-scale open source data visualization platform built on Python and React. Through this experience I've become comfortable working in large codebases, going through code review cycles, and engaging with open source communities. While my Superset contributions have been frontend-heavy, I have solid Python experience and I'm genuinely excited to go deeper into the SDK/backend side with Beam. I've read through the proposal - specifically the Python UnboundedSource and Watch Transform tasks - and I've also started looking at the existing Java implementations as reference. I'd love to: - Start contributing to Beam now to get more familiar with the codebase - Connect with potential mentors to better understand the scope and expectations - Get feedback on whether my background is a good fit for this project I've also browsed the open issues on GitHub and plan to pick up something from the Python SDK to get started. Could someone also send me an invite to the ASF Slack #beam channel? I'd love to continue the conversation there. Thanks so much for your time - looking forward to being part of the community!
