Hm -- I disagree with this one. If the size is 0, you should wrap the data
grid in a JSTL <if> tag and just not render anything.
It is often the case that a data grid with zero size still renders something to
keep the size / shape of a page consistent.
So, just do:
<jstl:if value="${dataSet.size > 0}">
<netui-data:dataGrid ...>
...
</netui-data:dataGrid>
</jstl:if>
