Hi all,
I'm a new member on this list and I thought I'd just introduce myself.
I'm a partner in Index Data, an OSS company of about 12 years now, and
developers of the YAZ toolkit for Z39.50/SRW/SRU, as well as a number of
other tools and solutions in the area of information retrieval and
bibliographic data management.
We recently learned about the project to add improved bibliographic
support to OO, and we think it's a wonderful idea. We'd like to explore
ways that we might be able to help.
As a starting point, we can offer support and assistance with the use of
integration of the YAZ toolkit, which implements a lot of useful
functionality and is portable across Mac/Win/Linux. Apart from
supporting the protocols mentioned above, it also supports character set
normalization and mapping of bibliographic records to XML, so I think it
would fit quite well into the overall framework. We may also be able to
lend our perspective to the requirements analysis phase and offer up
some ideas of how existing and perhaps future bibliographic resources
can be integrated into the system.
I hope we'll be able to find some ways that we can leverage our skills
and experience in your project -- I think a structured reference
management system would be a wonderful addition to a major office suite,
and I'd be very pleased if there was something we could do to help the
process along.
All the best,
--Sebastian
