Yes it is work a try I will do some research, see how how other project do it.
Also I will draw up the list of tasks and try and set some target amounts. And 
we do have our first pledge - thank you Mohammad Al-Ubaydli.

I had heard of it, but had not read any details, which I have now done. It is 
a Linux distribution aimed at the education market and it uses Openoffice as 
its office suite.

 A quick look at  the founder, Mark Shuttleworth's blog,would suggest he is 
well worth contacting. I will work Bruce in composing an approach.
