Yes, it's excellent, and will only get better.

However, I don't see where Zotero helps with OOo

Yes, it's in development. I think a first version should be available within the next couple/few weeks.

It will provide functionality equivalent to their Word integration. So Zotero will be the database, and will format your citations and bibliographies for you.
