[~cos] BIGTOP-547 is indeed pretty slow (I'll be looking into various ways of
speeding it up this week). That said, I think we may be better off using it
rather than embedding bits and piece of similar functionality as-is. IOW, if
push comes to shove, I'd rather introduce a command line option for the
implementation in BIGTOP-547 that would make sense for the VM-type of usage.
