Andrew Purtell updated BIGTOP-1028:
-----------------------------------

    Attachment: 0001-Benchpress.patch

Attached is a proposal as patch. This is an untested straightforward packaging
of BenchPress without separation of the controller and worker. That would be an
easy enhancement. The patch also does not provide iTest artifacts for smoke or
integration tests.

There are a couple of issues:

1. The BenchPress licensing. In the absence of a LICENSE file or preambles in
source, I think we must conclude the status of BenchPress sources is All Rights
Reserved. See https://github.com/palominolabs/benchpress/issues/2

2. The BenchPress HBase module will need Maven changes that introduce build
time profiles selecting between Hadoop 1 and Hadoop 2. See
https://github.com/palominolabs/benchpress/pull/1

3. BenchPress requires Java 7 in order to successfully compile. This means it
will also require a Java 7 runtime.

> At a recent Bigtop meetup there was a presentation on Palomino Lab's
> BenchPress (https://github.com/palominolabs/benchpress), a framework for
> constructing distributed benchmarks and tests. In subsequent discussion some
> expressed interest in taking up BenchPress into Bigtop somehow. This is a
> proposal for packaging BenchPress into Bigtop.
