odd test failure, i wonder if the networking is configured unusually and is
surprising us -- [~aledsage] [~sjcorbett] thoughts on that?
[~da...@twintechs.com] try running `mvn clean install -DskipTests=true` instead
... naughty, but reasonably safe as jenkins builds and runs all the tests a
dozen times a day
