    Shouldn't this return `null` for `catalogItemId`? Why treat it differently 
from the upgraded-catalog-item case where the id is patched?
    
    Could put the block behind `FEATURE_INFER_CATALOG_ITEM_ON_REBIND` check as 
this is part of the same logic.
