CALCITE-5306 has been merged for both Calcite and Avatica. I have lodged a ticket with Infra to remove AppVeyor [1] from the Calcite repo, so that it won't fail on each PR / push.

+1, and as discussed under CALCITE-5306

it would be probably a good idea to retire AppVeyor too as ORC did with
success (possibly in a separate ticket).

I have seen frequent failures on AppVeyor while retrieving dependencies,
and I have often found myself waiting for it to kick in for quite some time
while GitHub actions and Travis were done already.

Travis will no longer be available for ASF projects at the end of
2022.

For Calcite, only the calcite and calcite-avatica repos use travis
and
those projects are also using Github Actions already. Perhaps in our
case
we will just need to remove the Travis configs from those repos.
