I think this is a reasonable plan as this release is quite behind. The
nice to haves, unless they can be committed by March 10, can go into the
next release (approx. 3 months away) if we get back to our usual release
cadence.

Hi all,
The 1.39.0 release already has more than 200 tickets and given that we
are behind our usual (~3 months) release cadence I would suggest
cutting an RC rather soon.
I went over the tickets in the 1.39.0 release dashboard [1] and didn't
see any release blockers. I removed the fix version for some tickets
that are somewhat abandoned and asked for feedback on some others to
gauge the likelihood about inclusion in the release.
If there are any issues/PRs that we must include in the release please
let me know.
As things stand right now I could cut the first RC on March 10, 2025.
How do you feel about this timeline?
Best,
Stamatis

Hello everyone,
Now that Avatica 1.26.0 has been released [1], I think we can resume the
discussion towards Calcite 1.39.0 (which shall include an Avatica upgrade).
@Stamatis, as RM did you have any timing in mind?
Best,
Ruben

Yes, I can be the RM that's why I started this thread. I also started
going over the tickets tagged for 1.39.0 to see what can make it and
what not.

I agree with Francis. I think it is preferable to focus first on Avatica
1.26.0, and afterwards releasing Calcite 1.39.0 (which shall include an
upgrade to said Avatica version).
BTW, according to previous threads [1], the next release managers should
be:
- 1.39.0 Stamatis Zampetakis
- 1.40.0 Hongyu Guo
- 1.41.0 Jing Zhang
@Stamatis, are you still available to be the next release manager for
1.39.0?
Best,
Ruben

Let's try and get Avatica out first as it's been more than 8 months
since the last release and I think we are very close with getting most
of the PRs in. Another benefit is that Calcite can upgrade to the
latest
version of Avatica for release 1.39.0

Subject: [DISCUSS] Towards Calcite 1.39.0
Hi all,
It's been almost three months since our last release (15 Oct 2024)
and
there are about 135 new commits in main. I think it is a good time to
start the discussion for 1.39.0.
From the existing tickets tagged for 1.39.0 [1], I don't see release
blockers. Are there any other must have items that we want to include
in the release?
There is a parallel thread about an Avatica release so I guess one of
the main questions is how we should proceed in terms of timing. Do we
want to focus on Avatica first or advance both in parallel?
Best,
Stamatis
