hey David, I think the Apache-2 license is considered the most business
friendly of free software licenses, so no issues there.

If by "packed EBCDIC" you mean character fields in EBCDIC and numerics in
packed BCD, then this format is supported, although I must admit the EBCDIC
has only be used in test scenarios.  It relies on JVM charset support 
(default for EBCDIC is IBM1047), but the library does allow arbitrary
charsets to be specified for the text format, as long as they have JVM
support.
I'd be happy to work with you to test this further, and make changes, if
required.

As Christian points out above, this thread is a bit out of scope for the Dev
forum, perhaps we could start a new discussion over of the Users forum?
