For a long run they won't work as well as they do now.
My proposal for frequent components releases is one thing. But dropping support for components is just another. For me proposition of holding the community support for components and delegating it to component owners, is downgrading to project to the rank of Spring Integration. I believe that users will not be interested in the marketplace of crappy and unstable components. Many users will prefer to choose SI then because of the Spring name.
