Hi Dan- Good call on the JDK's HttpURLConnection as a "stock" http component. If I find some time, I'll take a stab at it.
I have no qualms about leaving the http4 component as the http4, I think the main thing is that the 'http' component (whatever backs it) should be safe for users as a "go to" component out-of-the-box.
