Ok, https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-3338 showed up, and it makes compression a bit pointless, which is a bit sad since it's a feature lots of people will be looking at in 1.0, so we'll commit the fix and reroll this one. This vote is now closed, but I'll restart a new one very shortly.
