Hey there folks - just a smidge past time for our biweekly check-in.

Cassandra 4.0.1 was released on 2021-09-07 with a critical fix for
gossip in large clusters.

We had some good discussion on tidying up our test failure situation
on the project. We now have a clean filter showing the known test
failures:https://issues.apache.org/jira/issues/?filter=12350869

If you're new to the project and looking for the best place to get
started, look no further.
For others active on the project, if you see a test failure during
your CI runs before commit, please
1) Check this list first and see if it's a known issue to save
yourself time, and if not
2) Create a new JIRA ticket to capture that failure w/the test name
and output with Bug Category "Correctness - Test Failure"

So what's happened in the past 2 weeks on the project? First, let's
cover the dev list:
https://lists.apache.org/list.html?dev@cassandra.apache.org:lte=2w:

Highlights:
* Ekaterina's got a good conversation going about the config on the
project. This is a great place to dive into a conversation and help
shape the project if you're an operator with experience in the field
configuring clusters.
* Ekaterina's also driving discussion on JDK 17 support (thanks!)
* The vote for CEP-13, Adding a DenyListing partitions feature passed
(https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CASSANDRA/CEP-13%3A+Denylisting+partitions)
* We have a discussion going on about the identities of releases,
subject "Defining which code changes target which release types".
Please chime in if you have a perspective there - our release strategy
here will influence the certification requirements of different
release types for our users so how we do this will have pretty big
ramifications for our users.
* The discussion thread for General Purpose Transactions
(https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/r33b3040ad0cd874b0ac53d290b6f4f2ecba19a0309c861fc2ee3336d%40%3Cdev.cassandra.apache.org%3E)
got a lot of traction and interest.
* The vote for CEP-14 Paxos Improvements passed
(https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CASSANDRA/CEP-14%3A+Paxos+Improvements)

Phew. So we're clearly talking a lot which is great - how's the code looking?

Hideous URL's aside, there's a lot of conversation going on, a lot of
code changes, improvements, and bugfixes going on, and the project's
looking incredibly healthy. Thanks everyone for being a part of this
and don't hesitate to drop me a line on things you'd like to see in
these updates that are missing!
