+1 to having a predictable release date and May 1st sounds good to me.

Doesn't the freeze start when we cut the branch? I have some in progress
work that I was hoping to wrap up by May 1st.

I don't see why not. Can we do that after the branch is cut on May 1st or
were you thinking before that?
