compatibility issue we’ve encountered while using Cassandra 5.0.5 in embedded mode with Java
17. The issue relates to the use of the deprecated System.setSecurityManager() method in
org.apache.cassandra.security.ThreadAwareSecurityManager , which causes the embedded Cassandra
server to hang during application startup. This behavior is triggered by Java 17’s restrictions
on deprecated security APIs. We would like to formally document this issue and seek guidance or
updates from the community regarding support for embedded Cassandra in modern JVM environments.
Please let me know the process to obtain JIRA access or if there is an alternative way to
