Ok, I misunderstood what you were saying. So you have multiple 
<class name="org.exolab.castor.mapping.MapItem">
in seperate <bind-xml> attributes in different fields. Well if this is
the case, then I agree that it SHOULD work.

I was thinking you had several top level <class> elements with the
same name attribute, which wont work. This is different though, and
the XML should be able to validate against the DTD. I'll leave it to
the XML gurus on the list though to figure out to work that one out.

Care to file an bug/enhancement report out on JIRA?
