Main's CAUSEWAY-3975 observation foundation needs lifecycle and configuration fixes before the maintenance-branch telemetry enhancements can be forward-ported. This change preserves main's existing instrumentation and Boot-managed tracing while validating an explicit Java-agent configuration. - Make observation cleanup idempotent, retain original work failures, and give transaction-manager iterations separate observation closures. - Keep inactive Causeway instrumentation independent of application registries; honor single/primary registries when active. - Preserve duration filtering through fluent observation calls, retain short failures, and add an explicit switch to disable JPA duration filtering for agent-owned exporters. - Add a real-agent/OTLP regression fixture, an observability guide, and the feature-by-feature forward-port roadmap. Validation: 31 focused unit/runtime tests, 4 exported-trace fixture tests, and 22 existing property/wrapper/JPA publishing regression tests pass. The affected runtime/JPA reactor builds successfully; strict OpenSpec validation and `git diff --check` pass. The fixture verifies HTTP → Causeway → JDBC ancestry and no duplicate framework spans using Java 25, Boot 4.2.0-M1 and agent 2.31.1. It uses a JDK HTTP server and mocked non-telemetry collaborators; full-repository and viewer-specific suites were not run. Agent mode retains short spans because Spring export predicates do not control the agent exporter. No new production dependencies are introduced. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
