At the company where I work, Kerberos is used for authentication, as well, via 
SPNEGO. 

The one thing I am wondering, and I haven't explored the chemistry code yet, is 
whether Kerberos authentication should be handled by the HTTP client layer 
transparently? When I have time I will explore this and let you know if I come 
up with anything useful.
