Hey Mike,
Have you thought about what this API would look like? Something like:

import ocw.dataset_processor as dsp
dsp.write_netcdf(Dataset, 'filename.nc')
{code}
Would it have a return value? Perhaps the NetCDF File object.
Just curious what you are thinking of designing. Cheers!
