Looks like Kyo has answered your question. If you need accurate historical data, you may use one of reanalysis data instead of model simulations. The ERA-Interim reanalysis, one of the most widely used data in research community, is freely available from the site: http://www.ecmwf.int/en/research/climate-reanalysis/browse-reanalysis-datasets.
