Thanks for the question. Although Apache Cloudberry originated from Greenplum, it is a new Apache project rather than a re-incubation of Greenplum itself. Apache HAWQ and Apache Cloudberry have different histories and goals. HAWQ was a separate project that was retired several years ago. Cloudberry is based on the last open-source Greenplum Database codebase, together with an active community committed to developing it in the Apache way. Regarding other OLAP databases such as Apache Doris, they serve different use cases and make different trade-offs. The open-source ecosystem benefits from having multiple projects with different strengths. Cloudberry focuses on a PostgreSQL-compatible MPP architecture, targeting large-scale analytical workloads while preserving PostgreSQL compatibility and its rich ecosystem. The goal of incubation is not to recreate an old project, but to establish an open, vendor-neutral community with Apache governance around the donated codebase. Since entering the Incubator, the community has continued to grow, with regular releases, new contributors and committers, and ongoing development.
