Dear all, FYI, managed to fix the problem. Found the lock file which is located on /tmp:
/tmp/1408046007947904422-15310-passwdlock.lock I made a backup and removed the lock file, and the password reset function is working now. Do let me know if I'm not doing it correctly. :) Thank you.
