You're on a unsupported distro, I thought you were on Ubuntu. Debian is not a supported distro, however you can test/explore by manually installing cpu-checker from Ubuntu repos.

On CentOS it checks if the /dev/kvm path exists and on Ubuntu it runs "kvm-ok" whose exit value should be 0 (that is, it exists).
